October 2026
- What's New Page added.
- Crew Picks for every city, including your base, are now on one page.
- A Hotel Update email now says what changed, for example "Hotel changed. PIT: Old Inn to New Inn", and you no longer get one when your hotel simply disappears from the calendar during a reroute.
- The brief now says "No hotel detected yet" when your calendar has no layover hotel.
- All your account settings are now consolidated on the Your CrewWX page.
- The day weather card is easier to read. HIGH and LOW are labelled, the rain chance and the wind are named, and the morning, afternoon and evening strip shows the hours it covers. A short heads-up line appears for thunderstorms, freezing rain, likely rain or snow, or gusts of 30 mph or more.
- If you commute in, your briefs before report now include a card for your base city: the weather for the day before and report day, and that evening's events and festivals. Commuting In on your settings page turns it off. Why: A morning report often means travelling in the day before, and a blizzard at the base matters as much as the events.
- On a long trip, the last day's forecast stays in your brief, and on a two-night stay the wake-up day now sits under the hotel you wake up in. Why: A commuter's brief two days out was dropping the base-city forecast for the last day once the page got long.
- A brief for a very long trip, a month of training for example, now shows the next few days and says where the trip continues. Why: Gmail cuts off long emails around 100 KB, and the cut was hiding the footer and the unsubscribe link.
- Subject lines show the city by name, Oakland, not the weather-lookup text, Oakland,CA,US.
- When something changes that you would notice, the brief carries a short "What's new" line for your next three briefs. This page keeps the longer record.
September 2026
- Finish Setup asks one question and shows only the steps for your answer, instead of every calendar's steps at once.
- Star and $ ratings for nearby places now rotate. They show on today's cards, every day for your first two weeks and about every third day after that. On the other days the same places show without ratings. Why: Ratings cost money each time they are pulled, and spreading them across days keeps them from running out before the month does. I'm trying new ways to keep costs down as CrewWX grows. -Lane
CrewWX Limitations
What it does not do.
- CrewWX briefs overnight trips. A turn or a one-day trip gets no brief.
- The first five days or so are a full forecast. Further out you get a daily outlook, labelled Extended outlook, without the morning, afternoon and evening detail.
- Events come from Ticketmaster, which only lists ticketed events. Free festivals come from a list I maintain, and it can lag. Check a festival's own site before you plan around it.
- CrewWX takes your hotel from the trip note, so it can't use a hotel until CrewHub posts it. Distances from your hotel appear only when CrewWX has found the hotel itself.
- Star and $ ratings appear on today's cards only. After your first two weeks they come about every third day, and on any day the allowance for them has run out they are left off. Without ratings, the same kind of places still show.
- CrewWX reads the schedule your calendar shows. If CrewHub hasn't synced a trip to your calendar yet, CrewWX can't see it. Changes are checked every ten minutes, and you get an email only when a trip changes.
